With only two weeks to go I still have 11 halftracks and three Puma's to paint.... wish me luck :D

Panzer Lehr 3 Week Paint-a-thon. Part 2
I finished the second platoon and the heavy machine-guns today. They still need a dull cote spray so they're a little shiny right now. I probably shouldn't take such close-up shots when I'm not painting to the highest standard. Oh well...

Battle Report - LW Panzer Lehr Vs. Fallschirmjager tourney practice game
I've been getting ready for a local tournament coming up in March so I thought I'd play a few games with my new Panzer Lehr list over the weekend. This game was a breakthrough mission with me being the attacker.

Our table...
The Fallschirmjagers took the top left and bottom right corners to deploy in. I placed my objectives in the bottom left corner, one in the small bocaged off field and the other in the open near the road.

Deployment...

In the top left corner my opponent placed a unit of infantry along the hedge row with StuG's on the road but out of sight behind a tree line. His heavy mortars were placed in the field behind the infantry.

In the bottom right corner he had 4 PaK 40's  with a unit of infantry along the edge of his deployment zone effectively boxing me in. His platoon of heavy machine guns was in the back field waiting to cover the objectives.

His big mistake was leaving the road in my deployment area open meaning I had a straight shot across the table to the objective on the other side. I took advantage of this by deploying both Lehr platoons and CiC on the road with Puma's and PzIV's facing off against the PaK40's. Ballsy but hey, I had the first turn so why not try to take them out. My mortars and Nebelwerfers were deployed in the field in the corner. The 2iC kampfguped with my heavy machine guns and went on a scouting mission around the enemies position (held in delayed reserve to arrive in the objective zone)

Turn 1
My mortars failed to range in with smoke on two of the PaK 40's so I used the rockets as backup. The Panzer IV's and Pumas opened up on the guns with full rate of fire but missed all but one of their shots which failed to pass its firepower test to destroy the gun :pinch: This had me very worried. One platoon of Lehr Panzergrenadiers zipped up next to the buildings and opened up with machine-gun fire but failed to pin down the guns.

The other platoon of Panzergrenadiers raced up the road. In hindsight I should have moved them at the double, I could have had two platoons holding the objective at the begining of turn two.

They paid for their mistake with a panzerfaust shot in the side, destroying one halftrack along with a tank hunter team and one MG team riding inside.

The PaK 40's replied to my failed opening salvo with full rate of fire destroying a halftrack plus two of its passengers, a PzIV and bailing another.

Turn 2
I knew at this point I'd have to get aggressive to take out the PaK 40's so I dismounted my halftracks leaving the tank hunter teams inside (for a mounted assault) and moved forward. The mortars managed to smoke the guns this time around so the rockets were able to hit and pin both the PaK 40's and the Fallschirmjagers behind them. The infantry opened up on the gun teams while the halftracks poured fire from their machine guns on the fallschirmjagers nearby. The Puma's and PzIV's managed to destroy two PaK 40's this time.

The assault was a success. The guns were destroyed save their cowardly commander who ran into some woods and the Fallschirmjagers wisely fell back from their position.

My other Panzergrenadier platoon moved the down the road to their objective. The surviving infantry team jumped the hedge row to get away from any pursuing enemy.

The made a stormtrooper move to get off the road and secure the objective.

My opponent scrambled to get his heavy machine guns in range to contest the objective. He was able to with a stormtrooper move, delaying the game one more turn.

His infantry rushed in as well, swamping the area with bodies.

But since my Konigstiger had a clear line of fire down the road, he was afraid to rush his StuGs down to help.

Turn 3
The tenacious panzergrenadiers rushed forward with their halftracks to mow down fleeing infantry

While hiding from the Konigstiger the StuGs fell victim to a 15cm rocket salvo

The Panzergrenadiers contesting the objective had no problem sweeping away the enemies heavy machine guns.

And arriving in the nick of time was the company 2iC with his HMG retinue who snagged the second objective.

My opponent knew he was unable to contest the second objective even in the slim chance he could retake the first so we called it game.
6-1 for the Panzer Lehr.
This fight could have been much tougher if he had placed his guys a little better to block the road. But in the end we both had a good time.

Panzer Lehr 3 Week Paint-a-thon
I've owned a Panzer Lehr Company since Villers Bocage came out but I never really found a list I liked so I never painted them up. Now that we have a new list in Earth & Steel I thought I'd pull them out and give them another go. I have a 1750 point late war tournament coming up on the 12th of March so I'm rushing to get them all painted.
This is what I have so far. I started the infantry last week so I'm pretty happy with the pace I'm at. I still need to flock and grass up the bases so bear with me a little.

First Platoon

I finished up their rides a while back but I thought I'd show them off anyway.

And some tank support....

This is the list I'm thinking about bringing to the tournament... let me know what you think about it as well.
Company HQ 85
2 Panzerfaust SMG teams
Panzergrenadier Lehr Platoon 290
3 Panzergrenadier Squads
Command Panzerfaust SMG team

1 Konigstiger (Porsche)
Panzer Lehr Platoon 380
4 Panzer IV H
Puma Panzerspah Lehr Platoon 150
1 Panzerspah Patrol
Rocket Launcher Battery 105
3 15cm NW41 Launchers
I might swap out the Konigstiger for a battery of Wespes and some other odds and ends.

Early War French
Quickie paint job on these guys, I wanted to get them finished fast so I could use them. I think at some point I'll go back and do more with the skin, it looks really boring right now. I still need to add ground covering obviously.

Hotchkiss Tanks

some WiP tanks....

I couldn't help it... I needed this shot.

I picked up three artillery batteries today along with mortars, HMG's, and whatever else came out today. I hope to get those painted up in the next month or so. Anyway, crits and comments are always welcome.
